Moving Timeline – Getting Ready for the Move

In order to have a smooth moving experience, you will want to create a moving timeline. This timeline will map out your entire move and make moving easy. Your timeline will help you and your family to be better prepared for the moving process ahead. Mapping out your move is a great way to get ready for relocating into another home.

Important Dates & Times

It is highly important that you keep track of any and all dates and times that pertain to your move. If you map out these dates and times you will have a better picture of deadlines. This will allow you to get things done, and or to prepare in time for when one of these dates roll around. Mapping important dates and times will prevent you from forgetting and missing appointments, calls, or meetings regarding your move. This will in turn make your moving experience run smoothly.

Notify

You may also want to map out a list of people, places, and services to notify of your address change. Some of these services you may have to cancel or relocate, depending on where you are moving to. Keep this list organized and arrange it in order of importance and categorize. Below is an example list of people and places to notify regarding your move.

Services to Cancel:

  • Water
  • Gas
  • Electricity
  • Trash
  • Newspaper
  • Internet/Cable
  • Gardening

Services/Places to Notify:

  • Post office
  • Banks
  • Schools
  • Subscriptions (magazine, medical, and so on)

People to Notify: This list will consist of the names of family members and friends to inform them of your new address.

Not all of these will pertain to your specific move; but as an example it gives you an idea of the preparation you will need to do. Mapping out a list of people and places to notify will help you keep on track for your move, and will help prevent paying for services you will no longer be using at your old residence.

To-do List

Part of your moving timeline should include a to-do list. This list should consist of important things to do before your move out date. Whether you need to pick up dry cleaning, clean your house, or get rid of unwanted items; these should all go on your to-do list. Make sure to organize this list in order of importance. Get the most important things done first so that you can relax and not worry about them later.

These are all great tricks to keep organized and prepared for your relocation. Mapping out a moving timeline is an excellent way to figure out what needs to be done and when; which will help your move run smooth and hassle free.
